LOCAL PROFESSIONALS JOIN TOGETHER TO PRESENT FREE BECOME EMPLOYABLE SEMINARS

In today’s struggling economy, unemployment is a growing problem in the U.S., with more than 12 million people – ranging from high school graduates in traditionally blue-collar jobs to executives with PhDs – currently without jobs. To address this problem locally, two upcoming Become Employable seminars are being planned to help jobless individuals cope with their unique situation and prepare for their future careers.

The seminars, which are free of charge and open to all unemployed individuals from the tri-state region, will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the following date at this location:

April 13 at the new Holiday Inn Fort Wayne at 4111 Paul Shaffer Drive (located on Coliseum Boulevard near IPFW and across from the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum).

Speakers and topics for the Become Employable seminars will include:

• Tom Tonkel of The Professional Edge on coping skills, resumes, interviews and getting the attention of Human Resources Professionals and Hiring Managers.
• Dan Surface of Surface Coaching on motivational techniques to help take charge of your life.
• Yvonne Smith, licensed social worker and professional life coach, on coping with and surviving unemployment and career seeking
• Joe Dager of Business901 and Duct Tape Marketing on marketing yourself as an individual jobseeker.
• Randi Ginder, Mary Kay image consultant, on body image and making a positive first impression for both men and women.
• Cherrie Ditto of Trine University Fort Wayne on self-improvement through education.
• Terri L Magley-Vice President Wachovia Securities Financial Advisory.

Following the above presentations, seminar attendees will have an opportunity to interact with the presenters to have their questions answered and to network with other jobseekers who share common concerns and experiences. Thanks to the generosity of several local businesspersons, complimentary refreshments and door prizes will be provided.

Unemployed individuals from all types of careers and educational backgrounds are invited to attend the Become Employable seminar. There is no charge to attend the seminar, but please acknowledge your attendance. You only need to register for one event.

Another quote I received:

I attended the Become Employable Seminar on April 8th and I am very glad I did. Not only was the seminar informational, there was time to meet with other people in the same situation. The presenters made themselves available after the event, answered individual questions, and offered many good suggestions. It event was not the "big pity party" that I had envisioned.

Quote from a participant of the 1st seminar:

The "Become Employable" seminar held on April 8th was terrific! Thank you to all the presenters for sharing your professional expertise and for making each participant feel more confident in managing their job search. Tom Tonkel, Mary Popovich, Joe Dager, Randi Ginder, Yvonne Smith, Cherie Ditto, Terri Magley, John Dickmeyer and Dan Surface . . . you all did a great job! I look forward to sharing the “good news” of a new job with each of you in the near future. A special thank you to Tom for the idea you had to create this seminar and to Cherie at Trine University for hosting the event. For those who were unable to attend this seminar, I highly recommend that you attend the one on April 13th . . . you'll be very glad that you did!
